Optex is has announced that it is discontinuing some of its Redwall outdoor PIR detectors. This means that Optex has said it can fulfil orders only while current stock remains available.

Redwall PIR

This will make way for the next generation of the Redwall external sensor called the Redwall SIP. The new SIP comes with a range of enhancements that allows more reliable external detection for the installer.New enhancements include.

1. Easier installation:

  • The new Redwall sensor can be installed even higher now. Up to 4 meters this gives an improved detection pattern.
  • A view finder together with a sounder for walk testing helps to ensure a quick set up but with accurate results.

2. Better false alarms rates:

  • By using a  new Auto sensitivity adjustment. Changes in light and temperature can be taken into account to adjust smoothly to changes in the enviroment but not generating false alarms.
  • The Redwall can now block out RF and white light. This is often the cause of  false alarms in external PIR detection.

3. Vandal proof features include:

  • Anti-masking.
  • Anti-tampering.

4. Additional features:

  • Detection areas across pre-set cameras view can be tripped from multiple outputs.
  • Detection directly underneath the detector.

5. Pricing:

  • You will pay the same for the new Redwall series giving excellent value for money.

So in summary the new Redwall SIP series of external PIR detectors will give the installer more flexibility and the ability to reduce false alarms in harsh environments and for no extra cost.

We’ve blogged on the Predator from 360 Vision before, but when the opportunity came along to discuss the product further, we grabbed it while we could!

Here we ask Mark Rees, Business Development Director for 360 Vision, what are the reasons for current and future successes with the range.

1: So how are sales of the Predator camera range despite the current economic climate?

Mark: we launched Predator CCTV camera back in late 2010 as an addition to our already established PTZ Dome range. Predator was always going to take some time to get established as the economy was still in difficulty and public spending was being cut in many places appropriate to the product – Predator is a ruggedised and overt PTZ, designed perfectly for town centres, local authority trouble spots and anywhere where a ‘cctv presence’ is necessary. We just found that money was tight so we decided to diversify.

Introducing the White Light (more later) brought us into more deterrent applications and the Thermal Predator particularly gave us an excellent tool for markets abroad.

We now supply in excess of 200 Predators a month all over the world!

2: Where are Predators being sold then?

Mark Well, just last week we took an order from a customer for a series of Predator CCTV cameras to be installed on the Kenyan Railway system….another order was for a customer in the US using them into the Oil industry. We are also extensively quoting for projects in the Middle East now in applications such as Oil fields and Border control.

3: Middle East? How?!

Mark This year we attended the superb Intersec expo in Dubai. We were sceptical at first – new region, new client base – but we were delighted with everything about the show. We came away with over 150 very strong project leads and the reception for our products was amazing.

4: Which of the  Predator cameras grabbed their interest then?

Mark The Thermal Predator was well received, we are unique (and patent pending) in that we offer a 640 high resolution thermal core (our competition currently offer 320 maximum) and in addition, we can offer IR and WHITE LIGHT on the combined Thermal and Analogue Predator camera.

Also, we used the show to present our final stage concept, ATEX Predator. This allows us to tie the product into the protected and intrinsically safe Oil, Petroleum and Gas industries – huge in the Middle East! ATEX Predator in Class I & II certification during late Summer 2012

5: Tell us about the White Light and why it has worked well for the range

Mark White Light Predator has surprised and amazed us as to the take up. For the first time since launch, we are seeing a small decline in our established PTZ Dome sales and instead, a transfer to the White Light Predators.

Talking with installers, it makes perfect sense now. Historically, they would install additional lighting to aid the cameras, be it IR for covert or external security lighting for more overt site protection.

With White Light Predator, up to 125m of high intensity White Light LED beam travels with the Predator – almost like a searchlight ! So, if an intruder was spotted, then he/she would have to be incredibly determined or incredibly stupid to continue their activities whilst illuminated!!

Remote Video Monitoring stations have embraced the concept too – it aids their staff in both the additional illumination, but also complementary to the voice annunciations they can make – to be able to say ‘you in the red jumper and blue trousers’ is a powerful message – yes, White Light also gives the ability for colour CCTV images at night, which again, is a big advantage for the quality of recorded evidence.

6: How expensive are your IR & White Lights to run and maintain?

Mark because they are all based on high quality LED technology, they are very long lasting, low power consuming and very easy to maintain and replace. I can recall supplying conventional IR lamps way back and the cost to replace their bulbs was extortionate, along with the sometimes short life! LED is a massive step forward.

7: we hear about this ‘Any colour, any quantity’ statement, what does that mean?

Mark It’s a tongue in cheek jibe to our competition – we know a really large manufacturer is not able to provide custom paint finishes unless the quantity is sufficient to alter a large production run. Even though we are selling Predators monthly in the hundreds now, we still offer the facility for the customer to request a specific RAL colour and we will provide it, any quantity!

This is important where the end user is concerned about blending into the surrounding area – we have produced colours for National Trust, Quarries, Woodland and even a JCB Yellow! We even took a stunning Gold Predator to Dubai to show that we really can produce ‘any colour’ !

8: So what about the future of Predator? What developments?

Mark currently right now, we have a stunning Megapixel camera block, with 28x optical zoom ready to deploy inside our IP Predator. All our range has an IP option which again, is currently unique amongst our competitors.

We are looking at Thermal additions with some seriously cool features that will diversify our activities further, but I cannot reveal those just yet!!

And with the ATEX, the materials we are using means we an offer a Stainless Steel version Predator which opens us up to ballistic arenas as well!

9: Integrated CCTV thanks you for your time and looks forward to reporting more on your Predator CCTV camera updates in the future!

Mark you’re welcome !

Many thanks to Mark for a brief insight into the Predator. Being a UK product, built, tested and supported, means that UK based installers benefit from a more ‘local’ company. Here at Integrated CCTV, we think buying British is essential in these difficult economic times, so support British and give the Predator a try!

Apple, long seen as innovators in the PC world, appear to be moving over more and more the SSD (Solid State Drive).

Reports in the PC industry suggest that the humble HDD could be extinct by as early as 2014, with the SSD replacing it

ssd

SSD is a great alternative – fast, efficient, long lasting…..no working parts either

But… It is still expensive, with a pretty modest 512GB setting you back £400+ !

Capacities aren’t quite there either, but as with HDDs, that’s just a matter of time

Like anything else, volume lowers pricing and with more and more PC manufacturers making the switch to SSD, then pricing will fall….. With increasing volumes, lower prices that will serve to increase the range and options, allowing capacities to increase

There is an extremely good chance that our Security World will benefit from SSD technology inside our DVRs, NVRs and software based recording real soon we reckon!

It’s nearly that time of year again.

IFSEC 2012

IFSEC 2012

Useful or just one of our Industry’s ‘must do’ activities?

Will you be going? What are you hoping to see?

Will it be another flood of Far Eastern manufacturers thrusting their ‘Number 1 manufacturer of DVR in the World’ messages into the arms of YOUR customers !? (along with pricing and a readily available credit card machine no doubt!)

What is the shot topic going to be? We are hoping for more HD-SDI / HDCCTV innovations, the more that is available the quicker the acceptance.

IP CCTV is bound to be in abundance – and probably less hardware and more software

Video Content Analytics (VCA) has been quiet, maybe because of various well publicised law suits, but this technology is vital in moving CCTV towards useful intelligence rather than grudge purposes.

We’d like to see innovation of VCA in Megapixel – so far, VCA tends to stick with D1/analogue, understandable with the processing power required.

And PTZs? By no means dead, many leading companies now producing multi-faceted units capable of simultaneous actions (Bosch Thermal, 360 Predator White Light/IR etc) still very much complementary tech in this world of Megapixel and HD !

And recording? Will we start to see the shift towards alternative methods of video storage?

And realistically….. Is IFSEC the forum for it ?

It will be interesting to see who is there and those that have chosen to spend the £10’s of thousands on other means of spreading their message – this year is the year of Essen and to be fair, it is a very credible alternative to IFSEC….

Let us know what you are hoping for and why you are attending – and as we said at the start, being a ‘must do show’ for whatever reason, we will be there to report on it!

Videcon have got just about everything covered with their new Concept pro AIR range of CCTV cameras. The concept PRO AIR range includes 11 different cameras to chose from. Each of the cameras has been designed to suit different scenarios and all look well built and not out of place when making a choice for a professional installation.

We looked at the AIR5026HG because we needed an analogue camera that could see up to 50 meters at night and came with a varifocal lens in order that we could cater for any view required. The image quality was compared to a Sanyo camera that it was to replace. The first thing we noticed was that the image quality was noticeably better. It was crisper and colour was more defined. The 6- 50 mm lens enabled us to look at various different views and easily accommodated our requirements. The portable plug in programmer that fits into a socket at the bottom of the housing enabled us to easily programme the camera and set up the unit for the very best picture.

AIR5026HG

What of the night time image? Well this was exceptional and measuring out the IR range it seemed to do a little more than the 50 meters we were expecting. If required this can be extended as Videcon have also produced a bolt on twin IR lamp that will allow the camera to look as far as 80 meters.

Videcon IR bolt on

The housing is very nicely finished and any customer would be pleased with the aesthetics of the AIR5026HG. However the best thing about the new AIR range is the price. Well pitched and with all 11 cameras looking fairly similar, a nice addition to an installing company’s portfolio.
