VideoIQ – an interesting entry into the UK IP HD Market

a name not commonly known here in the UK……..but they have some extremely innovative products…

Video IQ claim, to be the ONLY IP HD manufacturer that can offer intelligent Video Analytics on HD and Megapixel IP cameras…..most of the IP HD pixc units out at the moment cannot offer video analytics ‘at the edge’, instead relying on D1 modules for the clever on board Analytics

Probably the main interesting point, is that EVERY device is also an onboard DVR…….Dome cameras and Encoders all have onboard storage for up to 6 months recording! 1GB flash and then SATA Ruggedised HDD means that network outages are irrelevant.

Video IQ have made Software available or alternatively 3rd Party integration with companies such as Genetec and Milestone mean these products are flexible as well as feature rich.

Offering Analytics on Thermal is another string to their bow

And, sshh, we’ve heard a rumour that a certain UK manufacturer of PTZ IR, Thermal, Overt and Dome cameras could well be linking up with VideoIQ to add analytical tracking and onboard recording to its range of high speed PTZ units…….more soon!

So, VideoIQ, keep an eye as we think these guys are going to be getting some good attention in 2011!

March Networks raise the bar – Apple compatibility!

Command is March networks newest idea, but why I’am so excited about it? Ok, so I know I have bleated on about my love for all things Apple, but I am not the only one I am sure!

Many Security End Users are wanting to access their CCTV Surveillance Systems from their iDevices……….particularly Mac’s and MacBook’s…..

Now, I don’t want to get into the Apple OSX vs Microsoft Windows debate……there are enough forums and websites where die-hard Apple fans wage war on anything Mr Gates touches and others where Mr Jobs is public enemy number 1…….and that’s without Google and it’s Chrome OS coming around the corner!

No, this is about a company that has decided to take a different approach to software compatibility……..Command from March Networks

I got to see an ‘Advanced’ specification document and I have to be honest, if it releases in any way near as good as the spec, this is a winner!

Instead of a bespoke and installed software platform, it looks like March have decided to go a web-based platform…….this makes sense….less overhead on the PC, able to be run on systems where perhaps IT restrictions do not allow certain software……and most importantly……not Microsoft dependant!!! AT LAST!


Offering compatibility with Microsoft Windows, Mac OSX and I would guess, Linux/Unix and Chrome (when it launches) this means that the end user has the ability to view their system, irrespective of PC OS.

Another interesting feature, which I hope is as it states, ‘Video Analytics’……..hopefully, this means Analytic capability on their HD/Megapixel cameras which so far have probably hampered March camera sales…….interesting idea to take the technology to the PC instead as this allows greater flexibility in camera selection…… Autotracking is not mentioned, I guess that means their XDome IP range are still the main driver for that Analytic?

Shadow Archiving is listed, one of the innovative features of March Networks where gaps in recordings are auto-filled upon network resumption – truly a great feature for all the ‘network down’ concerned brigade!

Until I get my excited hands on this new software, there is little else to really say, other than well done to March Networks for taking the bold step to move into cross platform compatibility

Of course, once I do get the chance to have a good play with Command, watch out on Integrated CCTV for the review!

  • The new LILIN NVR range  means they have expanded their range of network video recording solutions once again. The CMX CCTV software and the GVD range of HD NVR’s are capable of recording up to 32 megapixel IP camera streams and displaying these simultaneously. Search options include a time line that allows the operator to easily find video that the end user may wish to export or burn onto a DVD. Points or regions of interest within the megapixel image can be created and this allows flexible recording and reduces storage of unnecessary data. With NVRs capable of up 14 TB of internal storage the GVD HD network video recorders offer some excellent features.
  • The LILIN CMX management software is also capable of managing remote IP cameras and DVRs . Emap alarms and motion notification enable the end user to be kept informed of all important events. Enabled with a powerful HTML feature hyperlinks means the user is able to bring up live video by just clicking on the mapping feature that is presented to the him when an alarm activation occurs.

Video management software the battle has begun – Price War

Video management software, we guessed it would happen – for IP to really take off, prices have to fall, certainly to a comparable level of analogue, before mass acceptance can take place

We learned recently that Milestone, long the main pioneers of video management software, have halved the cost of their entry level VMS……and at the same time, released a completely brand new version for absolutely FREE !

We like free…..free stands for FREEdom to try, use, decide……and Milestone have been an established brand in this market arena for some time

So what has this done for the price range for VMS systems pricing?

Well, beginning of 2010 average camera price per licence was around £70-100 – this latest buzz by Milestone changes that to a price range of FREE to around £30……if you are selling video management software… that will help gain traction!!
