Maintenance has always been a critical part of ensuring that a HD CCTV system operates correctly and gives the optimum picture quality at all times. It is easy to forget that a CCTV is a 24 hour seven day a week 356 day of the year operating system. Not many other products are asked to perform such a task so it is no surprise that it needs looking after. CCTV monitors are often at the forefront of problems. Too many companies simply sell monitors that are not fit for purpose and quickly burn out as a result. The same can be said for the cameras. It is so easy to go on line and buy Chinese manufactured products at a fraction of the price of some of the bigger more proven makes on the market. It is as always the same story though . You will get what you pay for . So either you have a system that has constant blank images on the split screens where cameras have gone down or you pay a lot of money calling out engineers to mend what you have.

Alternatively of course you can buy quality goods. A good example of this is when we talk about HD products is one of the best products on the market right now for both quality and reliability. It  is the HD Predator by 360 vision.

This camera is unique to the market place and has some fantastic features. You can have IR ,white light as well as HD and what is more you get multiple views from this camera . The camera concentrates on deterrent and crime prevention as its main selling point and below is an excerpt from the 360 website describing the benefits. Prevention is always better than cure . Any act of theft or vandalism that is prevented and this ultimately pays of the capital cost of the CCTV system. So what can the Predator do for you?

In the words of 360 themselves “The Patented Combined IR/White Light Technology on the 360 Vision “Predator” Rugged Camera range is widely recognised to be off a massive financial benefit in relation to its deterrent nature.

Security Managers have spent hours and hours trawling through pre-recorded video footage after an incident has occurred trying to locate relevant small sections to the respective incidents.

However, it is widely established that combined IR/White Light Technology deters many breaches of security occurring in the first place, there by eradicating the need for expensive, labour intensive post event video searches.

An aspect most prudent Senior Security Managers in Local Authorities, Blue Chip Companies and Public Utilities readily recognise the benefit, especially during the current tough economic climate.”

So going back to the subject of maintenance we know that buying a quality product will reduce costs in the long run. Buying HD will increase the value of the system to the end user and produce results worthy of the initial cost of the system. Combining the two and adding deterrent features will give you the best value in the long run.

We recently visited a site that had just had over 100 of their cameras either upgraded to HD or their existing cameras linked into an Avigilon software platform. The upgrade was designed to and sold to allow them better image quality both day and night. This is where the problems began because there was no doubt that the daytime images had been improved beyond all expectation. The HD cameras provided amazing clarity and crystal clear pictures, there is a but though, these pictures were only of any use during the day.

At night the decline in the image quality was remarkable, although the cameras were dual chip and had adaptive IR, the pictures just did not live up to the customers expectations. Dark, blurred and grainy would be the best description and it seemed to be in areas where light was clearly present.

The issue of course is where before the customers analogue cameras would work to a much lower LUX level his perception of the new images was that they were not good and rightly so.

The solution was simple and cost effective. His maintenance department was in the the process of replacing some of the older sodium and Halogen lighting and having been recommended Clarius white light illuminators as a way of providing good working lighting for their employees they decided to take this route across the factory. This lighting on our recommendation was also added into the areas where the camera pictures had deteriorated.

The results were stunning not only did the pictures improve dramatically but they remained in colour. This was something that had always been important to the customer and he was delighted with the results.

The best part though is the Clarius illuminators were very easy to install. Available in 12volt, 24v or POE using existing mains supplies and powering the PSU locally to the light or just picking up from a local IP switch makes installation quick and efficient. A built in PEC means they only operate when needed reducing power consumption even further.

The ongoing cost of lighting has been reduced dramatically and the Clarius illuminators will need little or no maintenance over the next 10 years or so. No more cherry pickers and wasted days changing bulbs.

So if you are a company who is considering lighting upgrades either for security reasons or you just have a programme to replace old halogen lighting then look no further than the Clarius illuminators.

Anyone who had the foresight to invest money into an  Avigilon CCTV system will know the major benefits it can bring to their organization. The new ACC5 software offers some fantastic features and this allows companies to better control crime, health and safety and management processes on their sites. The ability to link in existing cameras via encoders means that previously invested capital is not wasted. Encoders are the secret of how to convert an analogue CCTV system and set your company on a  course to eventually convert to HD CCTV surveillance.

The cameras that Avigilon provide are of the highest quality. With a failure rate that would make all its competitors extremely jealous Avigilon have also gained the trust of their installer base whose own costs have been reduced by installing reliable kit. Avigilon systems give end users nothing other than great images and easy to control search features.

Avigilon is scalable and this means that from the very smallest to the very largest business can install a system that will suit its needs. HD brings such value to your camera system, capturing incidents that would have been impossible with analogue and at a cost that is not prohibitive.

It’s not just the people who invested in the camera systems that have much to cheer about . The popularity of Avigilon and their products together with a massive online campaign have made these cameras and the unique software high profile for all involved in the industry . As a result sales of the cameras have gone beyond all expectations and Installers have been reaping the benefits as the Avigilon brand is now considered the market leader for HD CCTV.

It does not stop there. If you had invested in Avigilon shares back in November 2011 you could have bought in at $4.52 Canadian dollars, you may have got a little jumpy in March 2012 when they hit a low of $3.84. However after that you will have done nothing but smile as the shares have risen steadily. Then a meteoric jump in share value happened in October 2013 on the release of Avigilon’s annual results. To buy in now means that you are looking around the $30 per share mark. All in all a gain of some 525.00% rise in value since the share launch. There are not many companies out there that can boast of such success.

Since we interviewed Rick Ramsey back in 2009 Avigilon have risen to the top of the pile, with investment in new ideas still prevalent the Avigilon machine marches on with continued success for the company and those who are lucky enough to be on the shares bandwagon a very profitable time.

IDIS Direct IP  has many benefits and It has been designed with great thought about what end users require from an HD CCTV system. Many installers have become frustrated because historically HD CCTV has been a mix and match of various different products put together under the veil of ONVIF. Do you use a VMS solution together with a PC? Do you use an NVR with third party cameras? Do you use a hybrid DVR? Each combination provides its share of issues, not least the fact that none provide a “complete” HD CCTV solution.

With IDIS it is different. IDIS HD CCTV uses Direct IP, a simple , easy to install, plug and play HD CCTV system. IDIS direct IP enables the installer the feature of automatic network detection. This means all you need to do is switch on, plug in your camera and it appears on the monitor. No hassle trying to find out IP address no worries about compatibility, just pure, perfect HD images.

IDIS NVR’s come in 4,8 and 16 way versions. For larger systems NVR’s can be connected together using a DirectIP switch. This means Multi camera systems are scalable, flexible and connectivity is achieved through one simple DirectIP switch.

As with all IP systems distance has a bearing on design. For camera locations more than 90 metres from the NVR, IDIS direct IP has plenty of compatible ancillary equipment these include a DirectIP network switching hub, a Gigabit bandwidth handling multi camera data, PoE power capability for both IR camera and PTZ camera simultaneously. PoE injector/splitter, UTP to SFP converter, SFP module, EOC (Ethernet over Coax) module.

The full range of  HD CCTV cameras include Internal, external, bullet, dome and body. A great choice for all scenarios. So whatever you need to view IDIS direct IP has a camera type that will provide the sort of picture quality you have come to expect from an HD CCTV system

The pentaplex operation means the DirectIP based NVR has simultaneous functionality.

The following features apply:

Multiple independent video streams allow for live monitoring, recording and remote monitoring, while additional smart features control resolution, quality and bit rate from remote video data sources. In addition Live-view, record, playback, remote access, backup of recorded audio and video.

The IDIS NVR is ONVIF compliant if you need to introduce the NVR into an existing system then third party cameras will operate with the minimum of fuss. There are no licence fees to consider and iNEX, IDIS’s versatile Video Management Software (VMS), allows you to manage integrated security across your HD camera system.

What we like about the IDIS HD CCTV solution is that it covers all bases. All those questions you normally need to ask about compatibility, design, and installation are answered in one easy statement.” Yes it will work” So if you need a simple , reliable HD CCTV system look no further than HD CCTV solutions and IDIS direct IP.

Dahua Technology has unveiled a High Definition Composite Video Interface (HDCVI) technology. This has in turn been recently tested in the UK by Benchmark magazine ( see March 2014 issue). This new technology is unique to Dahua and they have labelled it HDCVI. The main  feature is the fact that  over-coaxial-cable it can produce analogue HD video transmission, allowing reliable long-distance HD transmission at lower cost. It should be noted though that Benchmark have tested the technology and question the performance of HDCVI where distances of over 100m are exceeded.

However that said, Dahua have labelled HDCVI as a breakthrough in HD technology and a unique one within the industry. Dahua claim that HDCVI offers the best upgrade path to high definition CCTV while still facilitating a conventional cabling environment but incorporating advanced features.

HDCVI technology is capable of delivering 1080p & 720p HD video format by using analogue modulation; in other words HD over coax but in addition also offers megapixel high video quality with more of the detail retained.

The claim from Dahua is that by using coax, HDCVI can support long-distance transmission. A point still to be proven in the field however it is not disputed that HDCVI is able to achieve reliable long range and non-latent transmission without further need for relay devices. In a like for like comparison with HD-SDI HDCVI however seems to shows a distinct advantage. With general transmission media, HD-SDI reaches 100 metres at most while HDCVI can in some circumstances transmit 500 metres by using 75-3 cable.

A major benefit over IP is that this new technology suffers no latency and this facilitates an outstanding real-time performance that requires no compression, as a result the new Dahua DVR successfully maintains the original quality and thus presents vivid images.

The clever part with the new HDCVI format is that it can carry three separate signals over the coax. These are composite video, audio and control.

In summary, Dahua believes that HDCVI is an industrial breakthrough, a revolutionary technology that offers megapixel image quality over long-distance transmission while enjoying the simplest installation requirements.
